The Volkswagen Golf GTI has a lot to offer at its price point. Its quality construction, handling, speed, efficiency, and an attractive, roomy interior rival those of luxury vehicles. The first Volkswagen Golf debuted for the 1975 model year. A sport suspension, limited-slip differential, and power steering with variable assistance help as well. The GTI is also equipped with performance brakes and DCC® adaptive chassis control so you can tweak the suspension to your liking.
Transmission and Response
Manual transmission models have an easy-to-use clutch pedal, while an optional dual-clutch automatic model is available. The GTI has a predictable, strong response with highly accurate steering and swift reaction to throttle inputs.
Safety Features
The Volkswagen Golf GTI scored perfectly in crash tests. Available driver-assistance technologies include forward collision warning, automated emergency braking (supporting the Blind Spot Monitor), lane departure warning/lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. A radar sensor enables front assist with pedestrian monitoring, while the GTI also offers available Park Assist and Rear Traffic Alert.
Infotainment
The infotainment system is centered on an 8-inch touchscreen display and responds to touch and voice commands. Personal devices can be integrated using the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the VW Car-Net App-Connect. An available 8-speaker, 400-watt Fender Premium Audio System includes a subwoofer and delivers concert-quality sound.
Comfort
The interior is well-crafted and can be further refined with options such as 12-way adjustable leather power seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. The rear seats aren’t as roomy, but four people can comfortably fit in the GTI. Folding seats expand the cargo area, which is thoughtfully designed with a nearly flat load floor.
Audience
The Golf GTI is built for anyone who wants to spend less for more. The S trim level can be purchased for about $29,000, while the SE and Autobahn with leather seats and automatic climate control go above that.3
